SALAR DE UYUNI AND THE ROUTE OF SUNDANCE KID AND BUTCH CASSIDY
(From april to october)

DAY 1
LA PAZ – CHALLAPATA (5 HRS.)
We start from La Paz city(3600 m A.s.l.) by 4WD through different plateau towns and also Oruro city, then we'll continue until Challapata. Night in Basic lodge.

DAY 2
CHALLAPATA –JIRIRA (5 HRS)
We start the desert with a fantastic view of volcano's, we'll visit villages which still have ancient customs, churches show us the rich and activities of years ago . Arrive to Jirira (3800 mts high), from here we have a fantastic view of the salt field and the THUNUPA volcano .Night Basic lodge.

DAY 3
JIRIRA – FISH ISLAND-UYUNI (6 HRS.)
This day we'll cross the salt field 70 km (extension of the salar 10.000m2) and we visit Isla Pascado where we'll see the giant cactus ( Piloes cereus selcianus). After lunch we'll continue until Colchani village located beside the salt field, where families work in production of edible salt. Arrive to Uyuni. (3800 m). Hotel.

DAY 4
UYUNI – ATOCHA –TUPIZA (7 HRS.)
We travel in 4WD 8 hrs. from Uyuni passing on the way local communities and Atocha mine, before arrive to Tupiza city we will see spectacular variety of colors of the landscape. Arrive to Tupiza. Hotel.

DAY 5
TUPIZA (FULL DAY)
In this day we will go to Know by car the fantastic areas around Tupiza : La puerta del Diablo (devil's door), The valley of the “machos” and the canyon del Inka,
after we will continue our visit to San Vicente region where is “Huacawañusca” the place where Sundance Kid and Buch Cassidy were killed. Return to Tupiza . Hotel
When Bolivia reach the independence and the mining acquired great economic importance, was when those two famous North American cattle thieves arrived to Bolivia exactly in the mining region between Tupiza and Uyuni, fugitives of them country justice, after the last train assault they were killed, The rests of these famous cattle thieves are in a small cemetery in the outskirts of Tupiza

DAY 6
TUPIZA –POTOSI (10 HRS.)
2 hrs. drive to Cotagaita situated in a valley that has a moderate climate an agricultural village that produces typical fruits. This is the region of the “singani” (typical drink made by a base of fermented grapes) after a break in this village we continuing to the City of Potosí. Hotel.

DAY 7
CITY OF POTOSI-COOPERATIVE MINES-HOT SPRINGS (FULL DAY)
A short ride by car to the cooperative mines in the silver mountain now called “CERRO RICO” . Before visiting the mines we have to stop at the market of “EL CALVARIO” where we will buy coca leaves, alcohol, cigarettes and dynamite to give as a presents to the miners . The mining work still manual and same as the colonial style of the XVI century . In our walk through the different galleries we can observe the miners at work preparing dynamite for detonation , permanently carrying out the heavy loads of minerals through narrow dark upward and downward holes . After 3 hrs. in the mines we return to the city of Potosí. In the afternoon we will go to the Hot springs of “LAGUNA DE TARAPAYA “ Return to the city of Potosí. Hotel

DAY 8
POTOSÍ - LA PAZ (10 HRS.)
Return to La Paz by the main road.
